The student will learn how to integrate different sensors using Kalman filters for more accurate and robust aeronautical navigation. The chosen systems are DME (providing ranging data) and INS (providing acceleration and rotating rate). The student will learn how to compensate systematic errors by using additional GNSS measurements. In the event of a discontinuity of GNSS service (e.g. because of an outage, a system malfunctioning, and/or an RF interference) the navigation filter implemented by the student will be able to maintain the required performance. Student tasks comprise navigation filter design, error model implementation, compensate for asynchronous measurements, simulation analysis and INS requirement definition, among others. Experience or background on signal processing basics, Kalman filtering and MATLAB/Simulink is a plus.
