128- Implementation of a 2nd generation multi-mode avionics front-end

The student will participate in the design and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) implementation of a second generation RF front-end for integrated avionics systems. The RF front-end will operate at the L-band (from 1 to 2 GHz) and will allow simultaneous reception and transmission of several avionics systems, such as DME, ADS-B, and the transponder Mode-S. In addition, a custom communications system working either at the 900-MHz ISM band or at the ARNS band will be accounted. The student will participate in the implementation of the system and in-lab testing as well. The test plan and results will be documented and sent to the governmental authorities for ground and flight tests approval.

Skills required:

  • RF Systems Engineer
  • Good knowledge of RF requirements: IP3, P1dB, Noise figure, isolation, VSWR, etc.
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment: scopes, spectrum analyzers, loads, MDO, attenuators, transitions, RF cables, etc.
